Case Study - Felony Theft and Habitual Traffic Offender Convictions

The Issue:

A Truck Dealership received an application for a sales position. In order to take steps to provide a safe work environment for their employees, Nation Search was engaged to do a felony background check on the applicant...a criminal background investigation.


The Action Taken by Nation Search:

Nation Search performed a comprehensive criminal search, consisting of SSN trace, Federal, County, and Department of Corrections search, driving history, and sex offender search.


The Conclusion:

The comprehensive criminal search turned up court documents reflecting a history of habitual driving offenses, in 1997 and 1998. Then a Felony Theft guilty plea, and conviction for Theft of $500-$15,000 in 2000. The individual was sentenced to 4 years probation, 60 hours of community service, and fines.

No offenses were uncovered by Nation Search since the 2000 theft conviction. Hopefully, this applicant has learned their lesson, and has proceeded down the path of better choices. Whether an employer will give them a chance, is up to them.
